DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. – Junior Monnazjea Finney-Smith recorded a season high 22 points and sophomore K'Lynn Willis added 13 as Hampton mounted another fourth quarter comeback attempt but fell short in a 66-56 loss at Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon.

Hampton fell behind early as Bethune held a 14-4 lead with a minute to go in the opening quarter but a Mikayla Sayle layup put the deficit at 14-6 after one.
A 3-pointer from Finney-Smith cut the lead to 21-16 with 4:56 left in the half, though the hosts closed the first half with a 25-16 lead.

The Wildcats opened the third quarter on a 16-4 run to lead 41-20 on a Kendra Cooper jumper with 4:34 left. That advantage grew to 23 points with 1:22 left on a layup by Chasimmie Brown. A Chanel Green jumper and two Finney-Smith free throws started Hampton's comeback attempt as they trailed 47-28 after three.

Hampton trailed 51-33 with 6:24 left in the game as Willis went to the foul line and drained a pair of free throws. That started a 23-8 explosion by the Lady Pirates as a Finney-Smith layup with 1:12 left got them to 59-56. The tank went empty from there as the Wildcats scored the last seven points to take the 10-point victory.

For the second straight game, the Lady Pirates forced their opponent into 30+ turnovers as the Wildcats had 35 on the day. Bethune-Cookman helped themselves going 22-of-46 from the floor (47.8%).

Hampton will now head to Tallahassee, Florida and face Florida A&M on Monday night at 6 pm.
