SOFTBALL SPLITS DAY TWO OF REBEL GAMES

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Hampton University softball team split both of its games on Wednesday in the second day of the Rebel Games, beating Sacred Heart 3-2 in eight innings before falling 7-0 to Creighton.

The Lady Pirates are 6-9 on the season.

Sacred Heart led 2-0 after two innings, but the Lady Pirates fought back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman Daniella Milloy led off the inning with a single, before senior Diamond Ponds also singled to put two on base.

Both runners advanced on a groundout, before freshman Hope Sobelewski singled up the middle to bring Milloy and Ponds home to tie the game at 2-2.

Junior Kayla DeSchepper was placed on second base to open the bottom of the eighth inning, per extra-inning rules, and she advanced to third on a single from Sobelewski. Senior Taylor McCoy then singled to right field, bringing DeSchepper in for the winning run.

Milloy, DeSchepper, and Sobelewski each had two hits, with Sobelewski driving in two runs.

Freshman Allie Hotetz picked up her first collegiate win in the circle, going all eight innings, striking out two and scattering six hits.

In the second game, Creighton took control with five runs in the bottom of the third inning, including a three-run home run from Jen Daro, before adding two more runs in the fourth.

Sobelewski had two of Hampton's five hits.

Sophomore Jada Fields and freshman Kial Watts combined to strike out three batters.
