LADY PIRATES TO TAKE ON BETHUNE-COOKMAN

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will wrap up a three-game homestand Monday evening at the HU Convocation Center, taking on conference foe Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (6-3, 1-0 MEAC) got back into the win column on Saturday with a 70-67 win over Florida A&M, paced by a 22-point, nine-rebound effort from senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) Freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.) added 15 points.

Sophomore guard Ryan Jordan (Manassas, Va.) tied her career high with 13 points.

The Lady Wildcats, in their sixth season under head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis, were picked to finish eighth in the MEAC this season. Senior guards Chastity Rene Taylor and Terrenisha Hollis were each named Preseason All-MEAC, and Taylor's 16.0 points per game lead the team. Hollis is grabbing a team-best 5.7 rebounds a contest.

B-CU has lost four of its last five after Saturday's 74-61 loss at Norfolk State.

Hampton is 22-7 all-time against Bethune-Cookman, and the Lady Pirates have won each of the last three meetings — including a 74-28 win last season at the HU Convocation Center. Hampton has won nine of the last 11 meetings, and the Lady Pirates are 13-0 against Bethune-Cookman at home.

Hampton is 296-138 against teams currently in the MEAC — including a 22-7 mark against Bethune-Cookman — and the Lady Pirates have won six MEAC regular-season titles to go along with seven tournament titles, including each of the last four.

Overall, the Lady Pirates have won their last 31 games against MEAC foes, including conference tournament games.

The Lady Pirates were a perfect 11-0 at home last season, and in their four-plus years under head coach David Six, they are 42-7 in the HU Convocation Center. Hampton had not lost at home since Jan. 28, 2012, when they fell 69-66 to Coppin State in overtime, prior to Wednesday's loss to American.

Hampton had won 16 straight home games before Wednesday's defeat.
