PIRATES TO FACE HORNETS LIVE ON ESPNU

Game Notes

DOVER, Del. –
When the Hampton University football team takes on Delaware State at Alumni Stadium on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., it will do so in front of a live national television audience thanks to ESPNU.

ESPNU can be found in Hampton Roads on Cox Digital Cable channel 232. For those who don't live in Hampton Roads, or don't have Cox Digital Cable, check your local listings for the station in your area.

The Pirates (2-1, 2-0 MEAC) are on a two-game winning streak after beating North Carolina A&T 35-21 on Sept. 18, while the Hornets, under the direction of head coach Al Lavan, are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 34-14 to Coastal Carolina this past Saturday.

The Pirates are 22-13 all-time against Delaware State and have won 12 of the last 15 meetings between these two teams – despite the Hornets leaving Armstrong Stadium with a 21-6 victory last season. Hampton won the last meeting between these two teams at Alumni Stadium in 2008, 17-14, and the Pirates are 10-6 all-time against Delaware State in Alumni Stadium. Hampton last lost to the Hornets in Alumni Stadium in 2004, by a score of 28-23.

Thursday's contest at Delaware State (0-3, 0-1 MEAC) will be Hampton's third road game of the season; the Pirates are 1-1 on the road this season after falling 33-0 at Central Michigan to open the season on Sept. 2 and defeating Howard 31-21 in William H. Greene Stadium on Sept. 11.

During Rose's tenure, the Pirates are 3-4 on the road, having gone 2-3 in away contests last season.

The Pirates are 79-31 against schools from the MEAC. This is only the Pirates' 16th year as a member of the MEAC, as they initially became a member back in 1995. Since joining the MEAC, the Pirates have won the conference championship five times, including three straight in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2006, the last time the Pirates won the MEAC, Hampton went 10-2, losing only to South Carolina State in the regular season and to New Hampshire in the NCAA playoffs. Prior to joining the MEAC, the Pirates were members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
