Pirates Set to Begin HBCU Championships

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 16, 2026) … The Hampton University men's tennis team is set to open play in the HBCU Championships Thursday.

The men's division will consist of 10 of ten teams in Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Hampton, Howard, Jackson State, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Tuskegee and Xavier University of Louisiana.

Hampton enters the weekend after playing the CNU Duals last weekend where they competed against Christopher Newport, Mary Washington and Longwood.

Rafael Padilha, Kohei Konishi, Aryan Arora and Ibrahim Carrington each posted two wins in singles on the weekend to lead the Pirates.

The tournament will begin Thursday when doubles begins at 9:30 a.m., and will conclude Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. when the trophy presentation begins.
