HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 4, 2026) … The Hampton University women's basketball team finishes off its Texas Two-Step on Thursday morning facing SMU at noon EST and 11 a.m. CST in Dallas, Texas.
The game will be on ACC Network Extra and will have live stats available.
ABOUT HAMPTON
Senior Kiki McElrath entered the opener at Houston needing four points for 1,000 in her collegiate career. She got that mark in the first half on a driving layup with 3:08 left for a 33-29 margin.
In the second half she exploded for 28 points, 20 of those in the fourth quarter, to end up with a career-best 33 points in the 73-65 loss to the Cougars.
HEY – YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
That might be the line said between the two coaches for Hampton's trip to SMU on Thursday as Tamisha Augustin was an assistant at Arizona to Adia Barnes as the Wildcats made the Final Four in 2021. She was on staff at Arizona from 2019-2021.
KENNEDY OUT OF THE GATE
Redshirt freshman Kennedy Hall joined the Pirates this year after playing two games at Boston College before an injury sidelined her. She saw very little rust in her first action scoring eight points and hauling in seven boards while going 4-for-4 at the foul line at Houston.
COACH COOP FLASHBACK
Assistant Coach Josh Cooperwood had some good memories as he walked back into the Fertitta Center for the women's opener against Houston. While as a member of the Tennessee State men's basketball team, playing in then named Hofheinz Pavilion, Cooperwood recorded 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor and dished out four assists for Tennessee State in a loss to the Cougars.
RIVERA MAKES DEBUT – IN FRONT OF FAMILY
Freshman Nilah Rivera made her collegiate debut and converted a three-point play early in the opening quarter in Hampton's loss to Houston. In her debut she had three points and three rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
Following the game she was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of her uncle Louis and his wife Dawn who came out to support her in her opener. The couple flew from New York, to Los Angeles for one of the final concerts of the rock group Aerosmith, and then hit Houston for the game.
HU-APPRENTICE CONNECTION
Current Director of Strategic and Broadcast Communications Jim Heath served as the Sports Information Director for The Apprentice School from 2000-2015 before coming to Hampton for his first stint from 2015-2022. He was inducted into The Apprentice School Hall of Fame in 2023. Hampton hosts Apprentice School on Monday night in women's action and Tuesday night in men's action.
