Hampton Softball Secures Third Straight Win Defeating Bowie State 4-2

HAMPTON, Va. (March 25, 2025) … The Hampton University softball defeated Bowie State this afternoon 4-2. The Pirate's victory marks the program's third straight. Coach Cat Tarvin's got out to an early advantage. The Pirates once again fell behind but took control of the contest late scoring three runs in the sixth inning.

Carmynn Bonner immediately gave Hampton a spark on the offensive end. In the bottom of the first frame, Bonner hit a leadoff home run making it 1-0. After the Pirate's initial run, the bats were held quiet. After three hitless Santrea Armstead recorded a base knock to left field. 

Bowie State threatened to score in the top of the third. With only one out on the board, the Bulldogs loaded the bases. Leah Maduro was called out of the bullpen. The Sophomore tallied back-to-back outs to get HU out of the jam. Maduro finished the contest with a season-high five strikeouts. 

During the top of the fourth Bowie State tied up the game 1-1. The Bulldogs began the frame with a double down the left field line. During the next at-bat, Bowie State scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs would take the lead at the top of the fifth on a sacrifice bunt. 

Hampton's offense found its rhythm in the bottom of the sixth. Bonner began the stanza producing a double to left field. After Bonner advanced to third on a wild pitch, Kylie Hill tied up the contest on a single up the middle. Maduro followed up Hull's singe with a base knock of her own. With two out on the board, Meagan Ramos drove in two runs for the Pirates. 

Hampton entered the final inning with an advantage of 4-2. The Pirates recorded three consecutive outs to secure the victory. 

UP NEXT

Hampton Softball resumes Coastal Athletic Association this weekend against the Stony Brook Seawolves. The three-game series against Stony Brook is set to begin Friday at 1:00 p.m.
