Lady Pirates Fall on the Road to Longwood 3-0

FARMVILLE, Va. (Sept. 10, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team ends its five-game road stint with a 3-0 loss to Longwood. The Lady Pirates kept the Lancers off the scoreboard in the first half. Longwood's offense found its rhythm in the final 45 minutes. While Hampton had more shots in the second half, HU could still not dig into the Lancers advantage.

The Lady Pirates' defense stood strong in the match's opening moments. Through the first 15 minutes, Kaitlyn Howell faced two shots on goal and made two saves. Howell, a native of Pellham, N.Y., finished the match with a career-high nine saves.

Hampton faced a total of 12 shots in the first half. While five of the opportunities were on goal, the Lady Pirates' defense held strong. During the 40th minute, Sanaa Perry produced the HU's first shot of the contest. Her chance would be blocked by a Lancers defender halting the attack. Before the first half came to an end Longwood's Sydney Robertson received a yellow card.

The Lady Pirates manufactured the first shot of the final 45 minutes of the match. Zaria Ascue's shot was fired at the bottom center of the goal. Longwood's defense once again stopped Hampton's offense. At the 50th-minute mark, the Lancers scored the contest's first goal. HU was quick to respond continuing to put pressure on LU by earning a corner kick. From the corner kick, Aileen Perez fired a shot. The Lancers goalkeeper made a superb save to hold onto the lead.

Longwood found the back of the net again in the 55th minute doubling its advantage. Hampton continued to produce shots but could claw into the Lancers' lead. Before the match was over Longwood scored once more.

Hampton returns to Powhatan Field for the first time in the month of September to host Lincoln (Pa.). Friday's match is set to begin at noon and will be streamed on FloSports.
