Hampton Falls to Monmouth, 61-10

West Long Branch, N.J. (Oct. 14, 2023) --- For the third time this season, Hampton (3-3, 1-2) had to battle a tough opponent in a rainstorm as the Pirates fell to Monmouth (3-3. 2-1), 61-10.  
 
Hampton took the opening kickoff and booted a field goal for a quick 3-0 lead. But Monmouth reeled off 41 straight points to lead, 41-3, seconds into the second half. Monmouth set a school record with seven rushing touchdowns in the contest. Jaden Shirden rushed for 276 yards (17.2 yards per carry) and four touchdowns for the Hawks. 
 
Darran Butts led the Pirates with 85 yards on 18 carries, the first time this season Hampton did not have a 100-yard rusher. 
 
Hampton marched 63 yards on its first possession, culminating in a 29-yard field goal by Tristan Heaton. But it took just :57 for Monmouth to respond. T.J. Bates returned the ensuing kickoff 69 yards to the 25-yard line and Sabe Ntoh ran it in from the six-yard line to give the Hawks a 7-3 lead with 6:59 left in the first quarter. 
 
After a 1:02 three-and-out and a short punt by the Pirates, Monmouth took over at Hampton 47-yard line. Monmouth's Shirden capped a short drive when he ran nine yards for the TD to give the Hawks a 14-3 lead with 1:32 left in the opening quarter. Another short Hampton punt gave the Hawks the ball at the 37-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Shirden dashed 63 yards to boost the Hawks lead to 21-3 at the end of the first quarter. 
 
Eddie Morales intercepted a Hampton pass and Asante Kearney hauled in a 57-yard reception to move the ball into Hampton territory. After the Hawks converted a fourth down play, Ntot scored from five yards out to advance the Monmouth lead to 28-3 with 11:05 left before halftime. Monmouth struck again after Hampton failed to convert on a fourth-down-and-one play. It took Monmouth two plays to cover 55 yards and scored when Marquez McCray hit Ashanti Caviness on a 31-yard pass giving the Hawks a 35-3 lead at intermission. 
 
 Monmouth returned the second half kickoff for a TD making the score 41-3 just 14 seconds into the second half. Hampton engineered a scoring drive capped by a two-yard TD run by Chris Zellous to make it 41-10 with 10:17 left in the third quarter. But Monmouth scored 20 straight points to end the game.  
 
Shirden set up Monmouth's next score with a 52-yard run and then dashed 25 yards for the touchdown with 9:16 left in the third quarter. A 72-yard scoring run by Shirden lifted the Hawks to a 54-10 advantage with 4:35 left in the third quarter. An eight-yard TD run Hawk quarterback keeper by McCray made it 61-10 and set a school record with seven rushing touchdowns in a game, to close out the scoring.
