HAMPTON, VA – The Hampton softball team swept a pair of games in day two of the Hampton Classic on Saturday defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 7-0 and Delaware State 11-3.
In game one,
Brianna Anderson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and
Skylar Chavez was 1-for-3 with two runs scored as the Lady Pirates defeated Fairleigh Dickinson.
Bottom of the second saw Anderson beat out a single to shortstop, later steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch.
Lexi Lomax would follow with a walk to put runners at the corners, she then also stole second to put herself in scoring position. With two outs, Anderson and Lomax would score as
Mo'ne Davis reached on an error to give the Lady Pirates a 3-0 lead.
Hampton would scratch a single run in the next four innings to push their lead to 7-0.
Noelle Doan would pitch six innings and give up one hit and finish with two strikeouts.
Game two saw Hampton take on Delaware State and score a 11-3 win.
The Hornets would score two runs in the top half on the second inning following a two-run homer by Jade King giving the hornets a 2-0 lead. Hampton would respond as they scored six runs in the bottom half of the second to give them a 6-2 lead over Delaware State.
Emily Kepple drove in two with a double and
Jackie Gonzalez drove in a pair with a single to highlight the inning. Hampton would call up the long ball in the third as
Lexi Lomax smacked a home run to push the lead to 7-2.
In the bottom of fourth, the Lady Pirates scored three runs and had two hits as they extended their lead to 10-2 over the Hornets. Delaware State answered with a run in the top half the fifth inning stretch but Hampton would end the game in the bottom of the fifth with a run of their own, making the final score 11-3.
Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI'S, while
Kiaya Jeusi went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Kepple added two RBI's, while Doan pitch five innings giving up four hits and finished with four strikeouts.
The Lady Pirates finish off the Hampton Classic on Sunday facing Morehead State at 12 pm and take on Howard in the Battle of the Real HU at 2pm.
