HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team dropped a 6-5 game on Saturday to North Carolina Cental on day two of the Pirate Invitational.
N.C. Central had a hot bat right out the gate as they took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first Inning. Hampton responded back in the bottom of the fourth as
Sarah Kollas slaps a 0-1 pitch back up the middle for a single. Next batter, Allie Hotez would walk to put two on base before a walk to
DaSha Hill loaded the bases..
Taylor Warrick then drilled a liner into left center for a triple clearing the bases to cut the lead to 4-3. Two batters later a sacrifice fly by
Janae Lyles scored Warrick to tie the game at four-all.
In the top of the fifth, N.C. Central put together three hits to score two runs and extend their lead to 6-4. With two quick outs, Hampton would respond in the bottom of the fifth as Warrick singles to right field. After she stole second putting her in scoring position,
Brianna Anderson singles to left field to drive in Warrick making the score 6-5. Lyles would end the inning on a ground out to second base.
Warrick was 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in three to lead Hampton at the plate. Hampton will now face St. Peter's at 1pm on Sunday and N.C. Central again at 3pm to close the tournament.
