VIENNA, WV – Homestanding Ohio Valley University scored six of the last seven goals of the game as the Fighting Scots defeated Hampton University 11-6 in men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Hampton (1-4) scored the first goal of the match late in the first period as Johnathan Napier connected with
Kier Johnson for a man-advantage goal with 2:56 left.
The Fighting Scots scored the next five goals with Keith Parkman and Kyle Dunklee scoring two apiece in the six minute goal barrage to put Ohio Valley up 5-1 with 4:37 left in the half.
The Pirates scored the next four goals with three of them in the last 4:18 of the first half. Johnson,
Lemuel Randolph and
Josh Square connected on unassisted goals with Square bringing the Pirates to 5-4 with 1:41 left in the half.
Johnson and Randolph connected on the first goal of the third period as Hampton tied the match 5-all with 13:43 left in the period. OVU finished the game scoring six of the last seven goals. Only a Randolph tally with 6:31 left in the game slowed the outburst as Hampton trailed 9-6 at that point.
Hampton was topped by Johnson with three goals, while Randolph added two and one assist for the Pirates.
Next up for Hampton will be a home match on April 1 at 2 pm when they face Virginia Military Institute at Armstrong Stadium.
