Box Score

Columbia, S.C. – The Hampton University Lady Pirates shutout North Carolina A&T 3-0 during day one of the MEAC Roundup to remain as the only team with an unblemished record in league play at 6-0, 21-8 overall. The Lady Pirates will face South Carolina State tomorrow afternoon and Florida schools Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M on Sunday to close out the weekend.

Hampton got what amounted to the winning runs just minutes into the game as Maggie Wolfe belted her seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot to left-center in the top half of the first off of Aggie starter Adia Dial.

From there it was a pitcher’s duel between Hampton’s Amanda Black and North Carolina A&T’s Sasha Philpot, as they combined to hold both teams scoreless until the top of the seventh when Tesara Liggins’ RBI single gave the Lady Pirates another insurance run.

Philpot did her best to keep the Aggies within reach, pitching six innings and allowing just one run while striking out three. However, Black was on the top of her game as well despite pitching 10 innings earlier in the day. The sophomore threw her fourth complete-game shutout of the season, scattering three hits and striking out four to improve to 12-4 on the year and move into seventh place all-time at Hampton with 28 wins.
