Cross Country teams take second at Longwood Home Open

FARMVILLE, Va. (Sept. 6, 2025) … The Hampton University cross country teams participated Saturday morning in the Longwood Home Opener at the Longwood University golf course and each team took second place.
On the men's side, Khalid Hamid was the top Hampton finisher coming in fifth covering the 8k course in 28:58.2, while Mohammed Al-YaFee was in sixth in 28:59.9. Daniel Danner was 19th in 31:54.1, with Dominic Bassey in 24th in 33:29.3 and Jordan Dones rounding out the Pirates in 32nd in 38:24.3. Longwood won the men's race scoring 24 points with Hampton in second with 62.
In the women's race, Avah Savage topped the Pirates coming in 10th place covering the 5k course in 20:22.5. Mekayla Wilson was 12th for Hampton in 20:31.9, while Olayinka Yetunde was 13th in 21:18.2, Kylee King was 15th in 21:30.2 and Angel Moultrie was 16th in 21:41.7 to round out the point scorers for the Pirates. Also running was Alannah Runge who finished 17th in 22:23.5 as Hampton totaled 50 points to trail Longwood who won the race with 15 points.
Hampton will next run on Friday at Christopher Newport University Invitational.
