Charleston, S.C. (Feb. 2, 2024) … In a game marred by 54 personal fouls with two technical fouls, Charleston (14-5, 6-2) posted an 86-57 win over Hampton (2-16, 2-6) before 424 fans at TD Arena. The red-hot Cougars have won eight of their last 10 games. Charleston converted 28-of-41 free throws while the Lady Pirates were good on 14-of-25 attempts.

Camryn Hill kept the Lady Pirates close by scoring a career high 30 points --- more than half Hampton's total for the game. The senior also had a team-high seven rebounds.

The two teams played on even terms throughout the first quarter with the Cougars holding a 17-15 advantage. Hill scored 12 of Hampton's 15 points in the first quarter to keep the Lady Pirates close. Le'Asia Foreman contributed a basket and Casey Miller connected on a free throw to account for Hampton's other three points.

Charleston's Jada Logan hit three, three-pointers in the second quarter as the Cougars opened up a 36-26 lead at intermission. Miller tallied five points in the quarter for Hampton including a lay-up at the buzzer to close the gap to 10. Hill made another two field goals, giving her 16 first- half points.

Hamptons' Janae Dublin, Hampton's second-leading scorer with a 9.9 points per game average, limped off the court after a collision under the basket and did not return. Later in the game, Malaka Cobb suffered an injury and had to be assisted to the bench.

Despite Hampton shooting 53.8 percent from the field in the third quarter, Charleston outscored the Lady Pirates, 26-22. Hill started the second half with a basket, two free throws, and a three pointer. A basket and two free throws by Cheyenne Talbot made the score 42-37 with 6:59 left in the quarter. Charleston outscored the Lady Pirates, 20-11, the rest of the quarter to open a 62-48 lead.

A ragged fourth quarter, in which 16 personal fouls and two technical fouls were whistled, the Cougars pulled away, outscoring Hampton, 24-9.

Without Dublin's inside presence, Charleston outrebounded the Lady Pirates, 53-35, with 20 offensive rebounds.
Vanessa Schwarzmann, who missed the first part of the season, scored her first points as a Lady Pirate with a three-pointer with 3:54 left in the game.

Jada Logan scored 25 points with seven rebounds to lead the Cougars Taryn Barbot added 19 points with Jenna Annecchiarico (14) and Zoe McCrary (13) also reaching double digits.

Hampton travels to Wilmington, N.C. to take on UNCW on Sunday, Feb. 4. The Lady Pirates crushed the Seahawks, 72-50, one week ago, at the Hampton Convocation Center.
