Pirates Shutout Radford, Splitting Saturday's Doubleheader

Hampton, VA– Hampton University softball split doubleheader Saturday against Radford, ending the three-game conference series with a 4-0 win.
The Pirates moved to 19-30 on the season, 7-14 in conference play. The Highlanders improved to 14-26 overall, also 7-14 in conference play.

GAME 1 SCORE– HAMPTON 3, RADFORD 4
How It Happened:
- The Pirates and the Highlanders went head-to-head with hits, but Radford was able to clinch the win in the extra-inning after a close call kept the Pirates from a much-needed run.
- Hampton took an early lead in the bottom of the third with a run scored by senior Casey Walker (Bristow, VA) and an RBI scored by Junior Kennedi Bedell (Columbus, GA) after stealing third on a double to right field. (2-0)
- Barbato, Boyd, and McMillian put the Highlanders on the board in the top of the fifth on doubles to the right to take the lead. (2-3)
- Hampton responded in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single by Bedell to tie the game 3-3.
- The Pirates played hard in the seventh inning, with senior Samyah Richardson (Chesapeake, VA) sliding home on a single to left field, but a closeout left HU unable to complete the rally.
- In an extra inning, Moss managed to score Radford's winning run on a single through the left side with all bases loaded. (4-3)
How It Happened:
- At the top of the second inning, senior Kiaya Jeusi (Woodbridge, VA) scored the first run for the Pirates on a double to left field. (1-0)
- With all bases loaded, Walker extended the lead to 2-0 on a throwing error by the short stop. Bedell and Junior Tiera Washington (Chesapeake, VA) followed up with two unearned runs carrying the pirates to the seventh inning to hang the victory. (3-0)
- Hampton secured the game in the bottom of the third inning with three runs on two RBI singles.
- The Pirates held the Highlanders scoreless.
